The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale, the biggest of its kind all over the world, is finally coming to Manila. Over two million books across various genres will fill the World Trade Center in Pasay with discounts ranging from 60 to 80 percent.
The event will open its doors at 9am on February 16 and will run for 231 hours straight until February 25. Yes, that means if ever you feel like going on a book buying binge at 3 in the morning, you can head over to the WTC right away and shop to your heart’s content. What’s more, admission is free.
“There are really three parts. We are bringing in millions of books, allowing people to shop 24 hours, and giving them unbelievable discounts. These are good quality, brand new books,” says Miguel Mercado, Big Bad Wolf Philippines’ marketing head. “Why are we doing this? It’s really a mission. Books are a big part of learning, and we believe that everybody, regardless of status, has the right to learn. Cheap books don’t necessarily have to be lesser in quality or second-hand.”
Just how low do they go? Here are a couple of examples:
Big Bad Wolf—a name picked to catch the attention of many—started in Malaysia in 2009, and has grown since, filling huge halls in different parts of the region. The Philippines is the fifth country to host the popular event. Mercado says that they brought in about 50 containers filled with books.
“It’s like the Disneyland for readers. You get an awe-inspiring feeling when you this huge venue filled with them,” he says.
ADMISSION IS FREE AT THE BIG BAD WOLF BOOK SALE, WHICH STARTS ON FEBRUARY 16 AND RUNS 24-HOURS UNTIL FEBRUARY 25. FOR MORE INFORMATION, FOLLOW THEM ON FACEBOOK.
