‘The Long Road Home’ gets all too real

This war series will bring you on a gripping journey through the eyes of eight soldiers

If you’ve been tuning in every night to National Geographic for the last month, you’re sure to have stumbled across The Long Road Home. It is the highly anticipated eighth-part global miniseries event the channel is holding based on Martha Raddatz’ New York Times Best-Selling Book of the same name.

The series stars some of your favorite actors and actresses from Prison Break, Law & Order, Parenthood, and The Walking Dead including, Michael Kelly, Jason Ritter, EJ Bonilla, Kate Bosworth, Sarah Wayne Callies, Noel Fisher and Jeremy Sisto. The Long Road Home tells the gripping and intimate story of war soldiers and their families. It is based on the siege of Sadr City, which happened on April 4, 2004 and involved the US Army’s 1st Cavalry Division. Told through the eyes of eight soldiers, the series offers a beautiful yet heartbreaking view into the lives of these army personnel and their families back home. Each episode highlights a different character’s unique and enthralling journey.

More than just another war story, The Long Road Home is an adrenaline-fueled and emotional journey that follows the action-packed battle of two simultaneous front. We have a group of inexperienced young soldiers forced to face the chaotic, terror-filled streets of Sadr. There, they try to navigate unexpected and unimaginable attacks in order to survive. Meanwhile, back home at Fort Hood, Texas, their  families are desperate for news of their loved ones, and fear the worst. In the process, they discover their own courage and determination.
