Born from NawwTy’s Kitchen, mother-of-three Trish Panlilio built Mulberry Door along with the help of her sons Quintin, Matteo, and Luca.
Having guests over at home on almost a daily basis became Trish’s routine to practice her cooking and experiment with different dishes. Support from family friends boosted their confidence into taking the next step after 3 successful years of NawwTy’s Kitchen’s custom-catering services. After all, people seemed to enjoy Trish’s cooking and all her boys wished for was for their mom to share her food and cooking skills with more people. In turn, they worked together to set up this base as an avenue for her to do exactly that.
Mulberry Door serves luxe comfort food dishes with a touch of homemade twists. Lip-smacking and indulgent, some of the main bestsellers were already staples from NawwTy’s Kitchen: the Callos, the Crab Fat Paella and the Paella Negra. Besides that, all three boys chose something to be named after them: Matteo’s Lamb Burger with Homemade Taro Chips, Luca’s Mango Elixir, and Apple & Q-rizo Salpicao for Quintin.A little out of the ordinary but nothing over-the-top, their homemade twists stem from the types of ingredients used or the way the dishes are cooked. For example, the lamb burger is blended with Mozzarella and Emmental, served with Dutch crust buns and taro chips. It’s the little things, like how their Caesar Salad might have a bit more bacon and sauce than usual. Their French Onion Soup, which–if that isn’t sinful enough for you–can also be served with bone marrow. They also serve tomato gazpacho, an indie-European soup not often seen here.
Tip: Popularized by The Gourmand Market, they also serve their freshly made juices (Mint & Apple Green Juice, Purple & Orange Dalandan, amongst others)–but you can also take them as smoothies upon request.Trish shares that she’s never had professional training and doesn’t follow recipes. Back at home, with guests pouring in, she would serve bountiful dishes and wouldn’t hold back on ingredients; with great homemade cooking, there are hardly any rules. The same goes for Mulberry Door — making sure their customers feel that what they’re getting is sulit, mostly for the calories consumed.Mulberry Door is all about giving off a relaxed vibe. From its ambiance and design, you can find a quiet place to read a book, work, or study. In a relatively small space, they’re able to set up communal tables, a lounge area, and corner spots to accommodate the different moods of a mixed crowd. Quintin, the eldest, quips, “If there’s anything to complain about, it might be the music selection–you can blame Matteo for that.”
